Outlander PHEV: Drive Modes

Outlander PHEV by Mitsubishi is a hybrid SUV featuring innovative technology that provides you with an all-wheel-drive capability that is family-friendly and fuel-efficient. The PHEV is powered by two electric motors, a lithium-ion battery and a gasoline engine which alternate when changed.

Its plug-in capability allows it to travel 500 kilometres on hybrid power and 35 kilometres on a charged battery. It has an EPA rating of 10 KM/L when on gasoline and 32KM/Le(Kilometres per litre equivalent) when operating on battery power in a city or highway. At Truro Mitsubishi, we provide you with new inventory such as a new Outlander PHEV Mitsubishi or other brands of your choice.

The EV System

This world's best-selling plug-in hybrid SUV is powered by a Mitsubishi Innovative Valve timing Electronic Control(MIVEC) engine. The engine performance is high-level, uses maximum power output, and has low fuel consumption. The engine produces 117 horsepower at 4,500 revolutions per minute (rpm) and 137 lb-ft of torque at 4500 (rpm). Its electric generator supplies electricity to its lithium-ion battery or its electric motors directly.

It has two AC synchronous permanent magnetic motors rated at 60Kw equivalent to 80 horsepower. The PHEV SUV, therefore, has a combined 197 horsepower available. It has a faster response and control than a traditional four-wheel-drive setup based on the absence of a drive shaft and transfer case. The Outlander has a 12KWh, high energy density lithium-ion battery beneath its floor, contributing to the car's low centre of gravity and stable driving performance.

The Drive Modes

The Outlander PHEV's drive modes include the EV Mode, the Parallel Hybrid Mode, the Series Hybrid Mode, the Snow Mode, and the Sport Mode.

The EV mode allows the electric motor to power the vehicle with no battery charging except for regenerative braking. The EV mode is used for medium to low speeds, for example, driving in the city.

The Series Hybrid Mode uses the two electric motors with assistance from the engine when needed, for example, when going uphill.

In Parallel Hybrid Mode, the engine powers the vehicle with assistance from the electric motors when necessary

Excess energy generated can also be used to charge the car's battery when driving. The Parallel Hybrid Mode is more efficient than the other modes because gasoline engines operate more efficiently than electric motors at high RPMs.

Snow Mode provides extra control measures when on icy or slippery surfaces, while Sport Mode allows for a more throttle response when you need it.

The Charging Modes

The driver-selected modes, including Battery Saver Mode, Battery Charge Mode, and EV Priority Mode, enable you to choose the power source you prefer when driving the Outlander PHEV.

With the Battery Save Mode on, it forces the engine to turn on and stops using the battery, which conserves it. This mode is most efficient for use on the highway, as gasoline is most efficient.

Battery Charge Mode ensures the generator charges the car's battery at any time and the EV Priority Mode reinforces the gasoline engine only runs when you require maximum speed.

The Mitsubishi Twin Motor S-AWC control system ensures you have optimal power and control by managing the car's anti-lock braking system, Active Stability Control, the Traction Control, and the Active Yaw Control.

The Outlander has AC power outlets, and putting the car in Ready Mode allows you to utilize them. A combined voltage of 1500W enables you to power multiple pieces of equipment at once, making the car perfect for your outdoor adventures. Contact us for any questions and additional information.
